Meet our Founder and CEO, Roopshree

Founded by Roopshree Chauhan in 2021, TerraWise is a movement that integrates the timeless wisdom of nature with contemporary farming practices. TerraWise inspires a lifestyle that honors our planet, cultivates community, and fosters a legacy of sustainability. It’s a path to healthier lives, stronger communities, and thriving environments.

Roopshree decided to embrace sustainable farming and leave behind her 25-year career as an educator for several deeply personal reasons. The catalyst for this transformation was undoubtedly the COVID-19 pandemic, which starkly reminded her of the fragility of life and the significance of our relationship with nature.

Amid the pandemic lockdowns, Roopshree discovered a sense of peace and connection on a piece of agricultural land in her ancestral village. While she continued to teach online from there, her heart was increasingly drawn to the world of gardening and farming. It was here that she rekindled her connection with both herself and the Earth. Engaging in organic farming and immersing herself in the rhythms of the seasons grounded her in profound ways.

Today, Roopshree leads TerraWise, serving a larger community by sharing the wisdom she has gained and continues to acquire on her journey. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities to cultivate not just the soil but a harmonious relationship with the Earth.

Sandeep’s passion for farming motivates him to stay current with the latest agricultural advancements through continuous learning. He maintains an open-minded approach, eagerly learning from diverse people and cultures.

A true humanitarian, Sandeep is always ready to support and help anyone who reaches out to him. His dedication to the community is unparalleled, making him a sought-after advisor for government offices and farmers across India on agricultural matters. Currently, he runs a nursery recognized by the National Horticultural Board, where he tirelessly promotes sustainable agricultural practices.

Sandeep’s impact extends beyond grassroots efforts with farmers. He has been instrumental in providing the initial impetus to TerraWise, and his guidance in all significant matters is invaluable. He actively pushes for policy changes and acts as an agent of reform for outdated agricultural policies. Meet Our Farm Operations Manager, Nirmala.

We are proud to introduce Nirmala, our exemplary Farm Operations Manager. A strong and resilient widow, Nirmala works tirelessly to support herself and her three children. Her two daughters are married, and her sons wedding is her next big milestone and motivates her to work hard. Nirmala is smart, proactive, and hardworking, always eager to learn new things and challenge herself.

Nirmala’s excellent work ethics and problem-solving skills make her a true asset to our farm. She has a remarkable ability to keep the staff motivated and productive while maintaining a positive and humorous atmosphere. Her leadership and dedication ensure that our operations run smoothly, and her knack for solving problems efficiently is invaluable. Nirmala’s commitment and passion inspire everyone around her, making her an indispensable part of our team.

Meet Our Watering and Maintenance Specialist, Chota.

Hailing from the village of Asadpur Khera, Chota is a determined woman who supplements her husband’s income with the goal of building a pucca house on their village plot. With the support of her in-laws, whom she has convinced to help with housework while she is at the farm, Chota exemplifies courage and determination. She is an inspiration to many women in her village, encouraging them to find their voices and speak their minds. A mother of two young children, Chota also spends her off days sewing clothes for friends and family, earning extra income to support her family’s dreams.

Always armed with a quick wit and a ready one-liner, Chota works tirelessly while maintaining a cheerful, positive energy that effortlessly uplifts her co-workers. Her unwavering dedication and hard work are truly commendable, making her an invaluable member of our team.

Meet Our Harvesting Supervisor, Sunita.

We are honored to introduce Sunita, our diligent Harvesting Supervisor. As a widow and the sole breadwinner for her family, Sunita’s strength and determination are truly inspiring. She is a proud mother of three daughters and a son. Her daughters are shining examples of her dedication: two are graduates, and one is pursuing post-graduate studies while preparing for the UPSC entrance exams. Her youngest child, her son, is still in school.

Sunita has chosen to educate her children rather than force them to work, always encouraging them to pursue further studies and make something of themselves. Her children understand the hardships she endures and contribute to the household income by taking on freelance odd jobs like beautician services, electrician work, or sewing clothes for villagers, all while continuing their education and not giving up on their ambitions. Sunita works tirelessly to support her children’s ambitious goals, striving to see them rise out of poverty and achieve their dreams. Her unwavering commitment to her family and her work is a testament to her remarkable resilience and dedication.

Meet Our Packaging Coordinator, Alka.

We are proud to introduce Alka, our dedicated Packaging Coordinator, a remarkable woman hailing from the village of Asadpur Khera. Balancing her professional responsibilities with her role as a loving mother of two, Alka is driven by a strong desire to provide the best education for her children, ensuring they can attend a private school instead of a government one. Her commitment to both her family and her work embodies the values of dedication and perseverance that are at the heart of our farm’s operations.

Alka is also very active on social media, regularly posting updates and reels that highlight her daily life and work. She has a keen interest in learning new educational games for her young children and effectively uses the internet to find resources that support their learning. Alka’s enthusiasm for both her personal and professional growth makes her an invaluable member of our team.
